Poe has just released a new “multi-bot chat” feature that allows users to simultaneously interact with multiple AI models within the same chat conversation.
Poe is an AI chatbot aggregator platform that gives users access to a range of chatbots such as GPT-4, Gemini, Claude, and others. The key benefit is the ability to access generative AI models from multiple providers, without having to maintain multiple subscriptions.
Chat like Slack
According to Poe, a user can now query Claude 3 Opus and compare the response to GPT-4 or Mistral Large with one click. They can then “mention” various AI models within the chat, including the Web Search bot to pull in up-to-date information about a topic, before bringing in a specialized writing bot to complete a writing task using the context from the previous bots.
Similarly, an image generated by DALL-E 3 on Poe could be compared to the output by SDXL or Playground v2.5.
“This new ability lets you easily compare results from various bots and discover optimal combinations of models to use the best tool for each step in a workflow,” wrote Adam D Angelo, the founder and CEO of Poe’s parent company Quora in a blog post.
“AI is moving at an incredible pace, and as new models are released, our goal is to provide easy ways to interact with them and combine them with all of the existing models. We expect these workflows involving multiple models to become increasingly important as the diversity of the model provider ecosystem continues to increase.”
However, it is unclear if the new feature offers adequate differentiation for users to sign up for Poe. While users can access the less powerful chatbots for free, the number of messages is severely limited and a paid subscription is necessary to use it productively.
On this front, Poe has recently switched to a system that uses “compute points”. Subscribers get a million compute points per month to use across the dozens of chatbots supported on the platform.
The cost of compute points varies greatly across models, however. For instance, Claude-3-Opus-200k costs a staggering 12,000 points per message, while GPT-4 is far cheaper at 350 points. Depending on the bots used, the conversation can hence get pricey very quickly.
